Hi, I'm Mugsy, the little man with the mug. I'm here to tell you a little more about the history of coffee, the background of MugShotz, and why we are here.
Coffee has been a staple in the United States ever since the Boston Tea Party, but coffee goes back thousands of years before that. Legend states that coffee was discovered in Ethopia by a shepherd who noticed that his sheep became hyperactive after eating the bean. Of course the shepherd had to try it himself and was scolded by monks for “partaking of the devil's fruit.” The monks soon changed their tune, however, when they tried it themselves! In Arabia, coffee was seen as a such a powerful delicacy that it was guarded by the military. Pope Vincent III attempted to banish it, but then enjoyed it so much, he baptized it, stating that, “coffee is so delicious it would be a pity to let the infidels have exclusive use of it.”
Coffee has continued to enjoy its fame from the moment of its discovery to today when you can now enjoy a cup at MugShotz. Coffee has started wars, been exchanged in peace treaties, and is now a multi-billion dollar industry in the United States and all over the world.
With such a varied, diverse, and strong history, it is little wonder that coffee should not be taken lightly. That's how we feel at MugShotz. We want to provide you not only with a great atmosphere to enjoy your coffee, but first and foremost, simply a great coffee. That's why we got started. We love coffee just as much as you do, and we know what it's like to want to enjoy a REAL cappuccino.
Our owner and founder, Bradley Tracy, is a police officer in Tennessee. No stranger to late nights and bad coffee, he had a dream to start a coffeehouse that served an excellent coffee and provided people, both young and old alike, a place to enjoy and relax. He started his first coffeeshop in Gallatin, Tennessee. Soon Brad realized he wanted to continue the tradition of great coffee, and introduce it to Western Kentucky. So he opened the doors of MugShotz in Bowling Green, Kentucky in August 2006.
So come on in...grab a mug. You might be surprised what you've been missing when you try our coffee. That's why we say... “Grab a mug, you're gonna be here awhile!”
